Department of Business Administration

Introduction

Established in 2010, the youngest among all 14 departments offering BS programs, Department of Business Administration & Commerce at Govt. Murray College Sialkot which also offers admissions into Intermediate program I-COM (2 year certification affiliated with the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala) is currently enjoying the tallest stature in terms of popularity (number of applications received every year), value delivery, knowledge creation, and need fulfillment of the local industry of Sialkot.

Proliferated number of admission applicants every year coerced college administration for capacity building which lead to double the enrollments out of applications through start of Evening Shift Classes for Bachelor of Business Administration – BBA (Honors) in Fall-2017. Since inception, 935 students have been enrolled into the undergraduate BS-BBA (Hons’) program under affiliation with the University of Gujrat and 423 students have graduated successfully. The Business Administration alumni is currently contributing in the economic development of Pakistan as well as global economy as the alumni is engaged in diverse work fields including but not limited to financial institutions especially the banking sector, leather industry, sports and surgical goods, education, marketing services, freelancing, entrepreneurship, and successful startups.

Despite producing a great score of business graduates during the recent years; The Department of Business Administration and Commerce, Govt. Murray Graduate College, Sialkot has struggled to fill the demand and supply gap with respect to the workforce owing to the reason of the city of Sialkot being and industrial city having more than 11,000 registered small and large sized corporations whilst, a rough estimate states that there are more than 55,000 small businesses in the city which remain unregistered.

The DBA&C receives 5,000 undergraduate admission applications on average yearly but has offering capacity of 110 students only. A larger chunk of the remaining applicants cannot afford heavy fee of the private institutions and hence they either abandon education, travel longer distances to other cities for public colleges, or are coerced to sell their properties and belongings for expensive business education.

In Future, along with establishment of 16 state of the art air-conditioned classrooms equippedwith multimedia facility, audio systems, fully furnished with comfortable chairs, tables, and dedicated rostrums; 2 modern and high-tech labs for business and research students with combined capacity of 80 students, and a smart room are part of the long-term development program which shall be accomplished by the year 2030 and shall build capacity for new programs includingBS-BBA (Accounting & Finance), BS-BCOM (Hons’), MBA-1.5, and MBA-Executive. The inclusion of new BS programs would protuberate the capacity and contribution for the Department of Business Administration & Commerce in the economic and social development of Pakistan.
